Fascinated by the extensive cabaret scene in the city, it was there that he started his luck in the show business as a drag queen - interpreting the role of Barbara Hitchcock alias Barbie, the lovechild of Marilyn Monroe and John F. Kennedy, who was sent to Mars to avoid controversy, but eventually came back to earth. Barbie then released one full album, which spawned 3 singles (Prostitution Twist, Johnny Johnny and Rock It Up).

During the process of recording a sophomore release for Barbie, Alexander was accompanied by Katanga and Farouk, later known as La Camilla and Jean-Pierre Barda, as well as the corpulent dancer Yazmina Chantal. The four were brought together when introduced by Sweden's leading fashion designer, Camilla Thulin. Being competitors on the Scandinavian club scene, they decided to hang together rather than separately. The newly founded quartet released two singles (Wham Bam and Barbie Goes Around The World), but the album never saw the light of the day. Instead Alexander, Jean-Pierre and La Camilla formed a new group without Yazmina - the Army of Lovers was born!
