The
original line-up: Jean-Pierre Barda, La
Camilla and Alexander Bard
|
They
are one of the most visually exciting artists
to emerge in the past decades; an unlikely combo
of self-assured sophisticates who created their
own brand of music - a wild and unforgettable
mixture of pop, dance, disco and a variety of
ethnic influences. They don't play instruments
nor profess to be musicians; they raise eyebrows
and turn heads with their flamboyant clothes and
outrageous behaviour.
They
are Army of Lovers!

The
original line-up: Jean-Pierre Barda, La
Camilla and Alexander Bard
|
Alexander
Bard, Jean-Pierre Barda and La
Camilla formed the basis of Army of Lovers.
Three very different yet complimentary artists
who came together through Sweden's club scene
in the latter part of 1987. Collectively, with
their varied backgrounds, they brought a fascinating
tangle of influences to the sound. The group's
musical inspirations came from a vast field
and each member lent creativity towards the
vision that became Army of Lovers. There was
only one rule to be followed: the art of originality.
"None of us has a drop of Anglo-Saxon blood,"
says Alexander. "French, Arab, Jewish,
Lapp and African music comes naturally to us.
It's the other tradition that seems exotic to
us."
