Jean-Pierre
Michél Barda was born in Paris of
French and Jewish-Algerian extraction. His family
moved just outside of Stockholm while Jean-Pierre
was still quite young. "There was a lot
of music in my house, but none of it was contemporary.
My Father listened to Arabic, North African
and Spanish classical music, and my mother had
her French classical records. But it wasn't
until I was 14 and left home, that I got to
hear contemporary music." Having gained
honours in Philosophy and Ethnics, Jean-Pierre
moved to Stockholm, and it was there he became
fascinated with the club scene. He took a job
at a friend's make-up studio, where he learned
the craft and began doing the make-up for local
fashion shows. At a show, he met the earlier
mentioned fashion designer Camilla Thulin.
Impressed with his ideas, she invited him to
make-up her models (one of whom was De La
Cour), and eventually, to choreograph her
shows. Camilla Thulin has become an integral
part of Army of Lovers as the group's
designer and visual consultant.

Jean-Pierre
then landed an apprenticeship at one of Sweden's
leading hair salons, which serviced the Royal
Queen. It was around that time, through
Thulin, he met Alexander. News of his
talents in the beauty field quickly spread,
and this was affirmed when he was appointed
personal hairdresser to the Swedish Queen. His
salon now proudly displays the emblem "By
Royal Appointment To The Swedish Court".
Jean-Pierre is also a sought-after fashion show
designer and choreographer. He also proved himself
as an able model, having joined fellow band
members on the catwalk in Jean-Paul Gaultier's
fashion show in Paris in the latter part of
1991.
